Fed: Cabinet endorses $900 environment boost
Cabinet has endorsed a $900 million scheme to encourage a greener Australia in 2000.
Environment Minister ROBERT HILL says Australia will enter the new century with unprecedented
access to alternative road transport fuels and renewable energy.
He says the Measures for a Better Environment package is part of a series of environmental
initiatives being introduced by the HOWARD government.
Cabinet endorsed the package announced by Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD in May this year.
Initiatives next year include financial incentives for commercial transport operators
to convert to and continue using cleaner gas alternatives, and a new system to improve
recycling of waste oil.
Also being introduced are rebates for householders to help install roof-top solar power
generators.
