A North-east MSP has defended airguns and voted against aproposed government ban.
West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine Lib Dem MSP Mike Rumbles spokeout during a parliamentary debate.
The SNP government had put forward a motion to ban the weaponswhich are not used for work or sport use.
He said: "The minister keeps mentioning legitimate reasons forhaving an air rifle, but the motion refers to legitimateoccupational and sporting interests.
"I have a legitimate interest in having an air rifle, but it isneither an occupational nor a sporting interest."
The motion was defeated by 73 votes to 51, even though the SNPhad support from Tory justice committee …
